Long Overdue Update

Hello Faithful Friends & Family ~

I know that much time has passed since the last update. Here is where we currently stand.

At our appointment with DFW IVF, we discussed the surro option (in depth). During our conversation, we discovered a second option that would enable us to carry our own baby. The procedure is called TAC (Trans Abdominal Cerclage). The guru that performs this surgery is in Chicago, Illinois and his name is Dr. Arthur Haney. As John and I both gathered our composure at the thought of another option, I started making plans for our trip to Chicago. After all, I am always up for a live filming of The Oprah Show!!

As we traveled home from our Dallas appointment, we were both speechless. As we came to our senses, we decided that we should involve the OB/GYN that would be taking care of this rare procedure. His nurse scheduled us a consultation appointment to discuss this new discovery. We were so excited about our meeting, and after about 20 minutes in, we quickly began to realize that Dr. Willens was not nearly as excited and did not really recommend the procedure. Apparently, there was some type of "dangerous"swelling (for lack of better words) in the uterus that often time repeats itself. With "often", the percentage given to us was 80%. That means there is less than 20% chance this pregnancy would carry to term, without complication. We do have another appointment with a specialist, to get a 3rd opinion, coming up soon. Anyone that truly knows my hubby, just laughed as they read that!

So...with a swift jerk of that rug, we have no idea where we are now!! I am definitely not a Type A personality, but I will try to be more diligent about keeping everyone informed...that is always a good place to be.

Big Squeeze Hugs to all,

Cheryl

PS...Tyler's first day of high school was (in his terms) "pretty darn cool". He was most excited that he will get to wear a Speedo for the swimming part of baseball training.

Here we go...

We friends, here we go. It is time to start our surrogate journey. Tomorrow is our first appointment with the IVF physician. Our doctor is Sam Chantilis, and his practice has been named one of the 10 best fertility centers in the country. They are located in Dallas, which is were all the retrievals, and transfers will occur. With football season approaching, you all will understand...he is getting our game plan together. Here are a few things that we do already know...they will retrieve my eggs and use John's sperm. I am sure he is going to try to call-in sick for the appointment tomorrow! The embryos will be fertilized in a dish, and implanted about 6-10 days later. Our carrier will be what is called a "gestational carrier", meaning we just need a stork.

Tomorrow, we also meet our agent. Gayla Wilson, with DFW gestational carriers. We have been speaking with her for several months, and are very excited to finally put a face with a name. We have a couple of options for carriers, and after our appointment, we will move forward with all of the screening processes. Anyone interested in her website, it is www.dfwgc.com. She is an amazing lady and has been a carrier herself, for 2 different families. Our hopes are that we will be able to include information about our carrier, once the selection/screening process has been completed. I know that she will compliment our family and allow us to grow!

I will post an update, following our appointment. Please pray that we are blessed with an amazing team of physicians, and healthy eggs! Big squeeze hugs to all of our friends and family as you follow us through this journey.
